Cheryl Goh is a trainee counsellor with James Cook University Singapore, a Master Of Guidance and Counselling student. She believes that therapy should be accessible to everyone, especially to those going through difficult times. Mental health should be made available to anyone, anywhere.
I know how it feels to be in a spiral and not be able to find a way out of your own mind, you seek advice from friends and end up pushing them away.
My mental health journey for me started 10 years ago, I’ve always known I was “special” and there was something different about me but I never knew what it was. For someone who failed high school through her GCSE’s in Singapore but still could make it through private universities to gain her Bachelor’s degree in marketing from University Of South Australia.
I thought to myself, there is no way someone like me who failed her school years cannot make it through to a masters degree. When 2021 hit, I was in an incredibly toxic relationship, that left me spiralling out of control, seeking everyone for advice, this person of my past was someone I met at the yoga studio I had attended.
Little did I know, the place that was supposed to provide me grounding ended up being the place that provided me chaos.
THE RESUME CHATTER
My approach as a clinician is psychodynamic, relational and focuses on bridge building. Through my own experiences in therapy as a client, I’ve found that I was unable to relate to a therapist that doesn’t let down a bit of their walls in order to be relatable to their client, and I aspire to do the same.

I want my clients to feel that the first thing is not “What brings you here to therapy today?”
This therapy session should be less about me, and more about you, and this feels like home.
A safe container to pour out your raw emotions, no matter how painful and difficult it may be, knowing that there is someone there to regulate your emotions.
